Snows

The new year eve brought snows with it though only the highest peak visible from Dehradun (Surkanda, Atltitude 10000 feet approx, taking its name from the Surkanda devi  temple on the peak) was covered with snows. This is the most handsome of all peaks visible from Dehradun, looks just like the Himalayas we read about in school books!

Surkanda peak is somewhere in the middle of the Himalayan range visible from Dehradun. The image below has tried to capture the whole north view from Dehradun by stitching together several images, this was taken during a rare clear day in the monsoons (the water storage tank under construction spoils the whole view - there should be a law against building such tanks!)

Happy New Year Friends!

Surkanda Devi Temple

The Surkanda peak lying at an altitude of 2,750 m. in the western part of tahsil Tehri, and is famous for the temple of Surkanda Devi. It is about 8 km. from Dhanolti on the motor road running from Mussoorie to Chamba and is connected with Narendra Nagar which is about 61 km. and with Tehri which is about 41 km. by motor roads. To reach the temple one has to leave the Mussoorie-Chamba road at Kadu Khal and climb a steep ascent of about 1.5 km. on foot. The legend is that Sati, the wife of Siva, gave up her life in the yajna started by her father. Siva passed through this place on his way back to Kailash with the dead body of Sati whose head fell at the spot where the temple of Surkhanda Devi stands. It commands a beautiful view of Dehra Dun, Rishikesh, Chandrabadni, Pratapnagar and Chakrata. Flowers of varied kinds and colours and indigenous herbs grown in abundance here and some of the beautiful birds of the western Himalayas are also found in the neighbourhood. A local fair is held on the occasion of Ganga Dasahra in Jyaistha when hundreds of devout pilgrims visit this place.

  3. Good Morning Jaggubhai!

The civil helipad is just 10 kms from my home. You can land your helicopter near my house only if you are a mosquito capable of landing on stamp size spaces. :)

Re stitching, please take my descriptions with a spoon (pinch is too little) of salt!
I have simply taken a series of pictures using nikon digital camera with panorama assistance and later rejoined the same using their arc-soft panorama-maker software. :)

Thy tooth is not so keen,
    Because thou art not seen,
    Although thy breath be rude.

Heigh-ho! sing, heigh-ho! unto the green holly:
Most freindship if feigning, most loving mere folly:
    Then heigh-ho, the holly!
    This life is most jolly.

    Freeze, freeze thou bitter sky,
That does not bite so nigh
    As benefits forgot:
    Though thou the waters warp,
Thy sting is not so sharp
    As a friend remembered not.
Heigh-ho! sing, heigh-ho! unto the green holly:

And among those all that dwell
I am the greatest of all…
    They say…
    Every experience is an education
Provided we learn something from it
And that education is worthwhile only if
We make sense of what we learnt
Maturity comes from the experiences we face
    Life kicks sense into us

  25. Mighty and majestic

    © Brandon Herrero
    Mighty and majestic, standing tall,
Looking over the grassland they continue to rise.
Protecting God’s creatures both big and small,
The echoing sounds of nature abounds.

    Atop their peaks collecting crystals,
The whiteness is so pure and clean.
Icicles glimmer so they can be seen,
A crisp chill is in the air.

Dew falls upon the blanket of green,
While blades sway in the breeze.
Shimmers of light bouncing all around,
    Grass: green, soft and round.

Oh trees you give shade from the sun and heat from the rays,
You provide safety and comfort all of the days.
To all the birds and creatures of the forest,
    You are a mighty guardian.

Up above where clouds roam free,
The beautiful blue sky is looking back at me.
Once the sky turns blue to black,
A twinkling of stars is looking back.

    Reflections on the water,
    The mighty hills do show.
Ripples of water splashing on my toe,
There is peacefulness like no other.

    You are best protected.

    Stillness will embrace you here,
    Warmth will sweep all over,
You will see your deepest fear
As a chance to grow on.

You will cast your eyes to look
    At the face of peril,
And will see the greatest view,
    And will feel so merry

That you are a part of this
    Wonder-ful performance
And you had the strength to be
    Actor, writer, audience.

You have tried all roles and miss
    Coming to a good end.
    So you have the expertise
    To create a dreamland."

You are right, too much fraud in India. The NSEL fraud is beyond imagination. So far we used to worry about cheater brokers but now entire commodity exchange is run by crooks! Same fellow Jignesh Shah was also on the board of MCX as Director, so two major commodity exchanges are frauds. Now for stock exchange and the companies listed therein...Mercifully SEBI is being very tough on these people and attached properties. Perhaps, if they had been politicians it could not have acted so tough...Who knows? Investors have lost a lot, especially their trust.

      Delete
  70. Congrats! That was heavenly courier service, fast delivery and free too!
The activities of MCX promoters was always suspect. Previous SEBI chief did not permit them to open stock exchange, so he was denied extension. The present one came and gave the stock exchange permission to MCX at once!!

For a change, Mangalore too feels winter chill

    Daijiworld Media Network - Mangalore

Mangalore, Dec 18 : 'We do not feel the real winter in Mangalore' was a common complaint from either residents or people who came on vacation over the last few years. The weather in Mangalore, except during the monsoons, seemed the same all year around.

But it seems this week the winter has arrived in Mangalore as well as in Udupi district in all its glory. On Monday December 16 night, Mangalore recorded a chilly 16.2 degree celcius while in Udupi it was still low at 15.2 degree celsius.

Though during the day the sun shines as usual, the mornings are deliciously chilly and the nights bitterly cold. Over the last few days, cool breeze has been blowing during the day, keeping the weather pleasant. Freezing water greets early birds and complains of cold and sore throats have become common.

As Christmas season arrives, Mangalore is expecting a huge number of visitors from around the Gulf and the west for Christmas celebration.

People pray that this beautiful weather continues to be pleasant around the twin districts.

so rakeshbhai, Merry Chirstmas and Happy new year, and lotts of love from Jaggu and Tommy
